Kuwait’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has submitted a new request to extend the contract for the operation, management, maintenance, and development of services at Terminal Four (T4) of Kuwait International Airport. This extension request marks the third for the contract with South Korea’s Incheon International, valued at KD5.575 million. The second extension ended on August 14, and the current request is currently under review by the State Audit Bureau (SAB) from financial, technical, and legal perspectives to ensure compliance with regulations.
Terminal Four is a critical facility serving a large segment of travelers at Kuwait International Airport. The purpose of extending the contract is to ensure uninterrupted operation and maintain high-quality services while new tender procedures are being conducted.
The DGCA has also requested an extension of the tender review period from the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT), allowing more time to thoroughly evaluate bids submitted by competing companies. These measures aim to guarantee operational stability, service quality, improve operational efficiency, and support the training of nationals working in airport operations.
The current contract with Incheon International Airport Corporation, which began in 2018, was originally set for five years and covers comprehensive services for Terminal Four, a terminal primarily catering to Kuwait Airways passengers with an annual capacity of 4.5 million travelers. The competition to operate T4 has recently attracted bids from major global players, including Turkey’s TAV Airports and South Korea’s Incheon International Airport Corporation, with DGCA expected to make a final recommendation soon.
Terminal Four’s management contract extension and the ongoing tender process are pivotal for Kuwait’s aviation sector as the airport seeks to enhance operational efficiency and passenger experience amidst increasing air traffic and regional competition. The chosen operator will play a significant role in shaping the future of Kuwait International Airport’s service standards and its positioning as a competitive regional aviation hub.
This ongoing development underscores Kuwait’s commitment to maintaining world-class airport infrastructure and service, supporting its national carrier Kuwait Airways, and contributing to the country’s long-term aviation growth strategy.
