
The UAE’s aviation sector has experienced remarkable growth between 2015 and 2024, with total passenger traffic through the country’s airports surpassing one billion, according to statistics released by the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre. During the same period, total aircraft movements exceeded 6.4 million, underscoring the UAE’s position as a global aviation hub.
Passenger traffic across UAE airports increased steadily from 114.8 million in 2015 to 147.8 million in 2024, including arrivals, departures, and transit passengers. In 2024 alone, more than 800,000 aircraft movements were recorded, bringing the total flights in and out of the UAE during the decade to over 6.4 million.
The UAE ranked first worldwide in the air transport quality index and was among the world’s top ten in five other key aviation performance indicators. These achievements reflect the country’s forward-looking vision and leadership in driving growth, competitiveness, and sustainability in the aviation sector.
Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism and Chairman of the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), attributed the successes to national strategies and initiatives under the leadership’s guidance. He highlighted that the sector continues to shape the country's future while reinforcing the UAE’s standing as a key player in global aviation. The aviation sector is recognized as a major pillar supporting economic diversification, trade, tourism, investment, and job creation.
In the first half of 2025, passenger traffic grew by 5% compared to the same period in 2024, with 75.4 million travelers passing through UAE airports. January 2025 recorded the highest monthly passenger volume at over 13.7 million.
UAE national carriers expanded their networks by launching flights to 15 new international destinations, including cities in Russia, Czech Republic, Poland, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Croatia, and Ethiopia. This expansion further cements the UAE’s role as a leading aviation hub linking multiple continents.
Overall, the UAE’s aviation sector exemplifies integration of technological innovation with high safety and service standards, positioning the country at the forefront of the global aviation industry.
