Dubai Airports has launched an inspiring new art exhibition at Dubai International Airport (DXB) that celebrates the talent and creativity of People of Determination through a partnership with Mawaheb, a Dubai-based art studio supporting these artists.
The exhibition, located in Terminal 1 near the Airlines Lounge on Departures Level 1, features 12 unique canvases showcasing diverse styles including abstract, figurative, surrealist, and pop art. Each piece reflects the personal stories and perspectives of the artists, offering travellers a glimpse into their creativity and spirit.
This initiative aligns with the UAE's 'Year of Community' and reflects Dubai Airports' long-standing commitment to social inclusion and accessibility. Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports and a Mawaheb Ambassador, highlighted the exhibition's power to challenge perceptions and shift mindsets among the millions of travellers passing through DXB. He described the artwork as possessing "raw expression" and a "fearless use of colour," underscoring how every individual has a unique story and voice worth hearing.
Wemmy de Maaker, Founder and Managing Director of Mawaheb, expressed gratitude for the platform provided by Dubai Airports, emphasizing the exhibition's role in inspiring a sense of possibility for all viewers and giving the artists a highly visible opportunity to showcase their work on an international stage. Mawaheb has nurtured artistic talents since 2017, and the partnership with Dubai Airports has grown to become a strong symbol of inclusion and creative expression.
Among the notable artworks are "Shapes of My Mind" by Kieran Carter, "Prezioso" by Marwan Al Khaja which is a gold-leafed piece, "Leila’s Lillies" by Leila Murgian, and other evocative works such as "Punk 2" by Richard Gillam and "The Light Inside Me" by Zaid Jafar. Each painting is accompanied by information about the artist and their story, allowing travellers to engage deeply with the art.
The exhibition at such a busy international airport not only enriches the travel experience with creativity and meaning but also serves as a powerful statement on inclusivity, demonstrating that people of all abilities have valuable perspectives to share. It reinforces Dubai’s commitment to community engagement and presents art as a medium of empowerment, awareness, and social change.
The exhibition is expected to be a lasting feature at DXB, inspiring both travellers and the wider community to celebrate diversity, talent, and the human spirit.
