Qatar Airways and China Southern Airlines have announced a major expansion of their codeshare partnership alongside an increase in flight frequencies between Doha and Beijing ahead of China’s Golden Week holiday period in October 2025. This development builds on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2024, reinforcing the airlines’ shared commitment to enhanced connectivity for travelers from China.
Starting October 16, 2025, Qatar Airways will add its code to China Southern’s three weekly direct flights operating between Beijing Daxing International Airport and Doha Hamad International Airport. In turn, China Southern Airlines will expand its “CZ” codeshare to cover Qatar Airways-operated flights beyond Doha to 15 key destinations across Africa, Europe, and the Middle East. These include major cities such as Amman, Athens, Barcelona, Cairo, Dar es Salaam, Madrid, and Munich.
Qatar Airways Chief Commercial Officer Thierry Antinori remarked, “This expansion ensures that every Qatar Airways route to China is now accessible to China Southern Airlines passengers, underlining our commitment to a market integral to our growth and connectivity. Timed with this year’s Golden Week, it provides Chinese travelers with unparalleled access through Doha to over 170 destinations across our global network via Hamad International Airport, recognized as the Best Airport in the Middle East by Skytrax in 2025.”
Qatar Airways has already had a codeshare in place on China Southern-operated flights between Guangzhou and Doha since April 2024. Building on the existing agreements, China Southern plans to extend its code to Qatar Airways flights between Doha and four other major Chinese cities: Chengdu Tianfu, Chongqing, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, subject to approvals from the Chinese government.
China Southern Airlines President and CEO Han Wensheng emphasized, “Beijing Daxing is a cornerstone of China Southern’s international development. The launch of new Doha services further strengthens its role alongside existing operations from Guangzhou. Together with Qatar Airways, we are expanding opportunities for Chinese passengers to access destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas through Doha’s Hamad International Airport.”
With this frequency and codeshare expansion, Qatar Airways and its strategic partners China Southern Airlines and Xiamen Airlines will offer 64 weekly flights across eight gateways in Greater China, providing one of the most extensive networks established by a single airline.
This partnership also extends beyond passenger services, with continued collaboration in cargo operations and loyalty programs aimed at building robust, sustainable global aviation partnerships.
